An especially fine Chinese export eggshell porcelain tea bowl and saucer, decorated in famille rose enamels with a butterfly amongst blossoming peonies, (an emblem of nobility and wealth, the “Queen of the Flowers”), all within a minutely rendered gilded foliate border encircled by pink diapering. The saucer measuring 4 5/8″ in diameter, a minute rim flake to the cup restored, otherwise superb quality and condition. Circa 1730.
