A very rare instance of a 19th century Chinese export gilded and lacquered tea caddy with hand painted Chinese scenes-one view centered with a depiction of the famous Folly Fort on the Pearl River. Besides having these really charming Chinese views on all sides of the tea caddy, it is also just remarkable in that it is in such pristine condition; no major wear or lifting or splitting of the lacquer, the interior with its original pair of ornately decorated pewter canisters; and the interior lid centered with the original owner’s initials, the lock with its original key. Measuring 6″ x 11″ x 8″. Mid-19th century.
