A great rare form with a wonderful provenance, this superb Chinese export porcelain Transitional period blue and white barrel form wine pot is decorated with birds amongst flowering branches issuing from rockwork, the neck with a band of floral scrollwork, the cover decorated the same with lotus, the handle and spout with stylized clouds. The reverse marked with an underglaze blue fu mark, and bearing the sale label from Christie’s Amsterdam famous sale of “The Property of Captain M. Hatcher” from June, 1984. ┬áMeasuring 7″ high and in very good condition considering it having survived a ship wreck. Mid-17th century.
