An especially fine Chinese export porcelain ‘Mahout’ plate made for the Indian Market. The well-potted shaped plate is decorated in famille rose enamels and centered with a lobed and barbed roundel with an image of a Mahout on his elephant in reserve against a densely painted floral ground rendered in bianco-sopra-bianco enamels with polychrome highlights. The white-white effect very well painted and in excellent condition virtually resembling lace upon the surface of the plate. Measuring 9 1/2″ in diameter and in very good condition. Late 18th century.
