A highly unusual, possibly unique, and very charming pair of Chinese export porcelain 6″ plates centered with Mandarin scenes within a rare “frolicking fish” sea green border. The fish cavort against a finely delineated wave ground sprinkled with sprigs and blossoms. The scenes are equally interesting with one plate depicting seated scholars conversing in a landscape, their attendant at their feet, the other with a maiden upon a white horse accompanied by an elderly man, both drifting amongst clouds within a landscape. Very good condition. Circa 1800.
