Two fine Chinese export porcelain American market tea wares – a strap-handled drum teapot and a matching tea bowl and saucer – made specifically for the Rhode Island market bearing a design of Hope and Her Anchor.  As maritime Rhode Island’s economy depended heavily on shipping, the symbols had special meaning for many who risked their lives at sea – the anchor can still be seen on Rhode Island’s state seal flag to this day. The teapot, in good condition, measuring 5″ tall x 9″ across, the tea bowl 3″ in diameter, the saucer 4″ and with a line sealed. Late 18th century.
